Along a mostly deserted route through the George Washington & Jefferson National Forests, Beartree Recreation Area sits in a heavily forested region along US 58 in Virginia. The route is mostly deserted because the road here twists and turns and winds so much that one can rarely get above 30 MPH if at all. Most traffic seeks other routes to avoid this section of the highway. Currently, as I type this, the road is closed and will be until October of this year when it is scheduled to reopen from damage caused by Hurricane Helene last year, which pretty much washed most of the road away.
The picture above is of the swimming bathhouse and deck, then I traversed my way to the beach and around the lake on the trail seeing all sorts of various sights, some of which were somewhat depressing but par for the course nowadays.
