The Port of Ashland is a waterfront park on the Ohio River in Ashland, Kentucky. This is a fantastic place to stop for a picnic, a short walk, or just to grab a water or iced tea and relax for a few before hopping back on the road. Sometimes are busier than others, but it was mostly empty on this day.
Fort Recovery is a small town in Ohio just across the border from Indiana. It has an interesting history and connection to Fort Wayne, my hometown. The connection was actually a person named "Mad" Anthony Wayne, for whom Fort Wayne is named. I didn't spend much time at Fort Recovery, mainly just looking around the park where the fort is located.
Pike Lake State Park
This is a rather unique museum to visit. I'm naturally attracted to nostalgic places, and this place is like no other. Windmills used to dot the countryside - they were everywhere here in Indiana. So coming here was just like stepping back in time and highly enjoyable as well as educational for me. This is the Mid-America Windmill Museum, located just outside of Kendallville, Indiana (the property abuts the city border). I happened to see a sign for this museum on the road while taking care of an errand and decided that I needed to visit. I'm glad I did. Above is the scene from the parking lot as one walks up towards the visitor center. Of course, the windmills can also be seen as I will show in the pictures below. After the first few pictures, an explanatory sign describes each windmill and then a picture of the windmill appears. Some of the windmills are missing different parts.
