Hickory Lodge is a small park in Carbondale where the Park Administration Building is located. I happened to see this concrete lighthouse that I thought was rather neat while walking around the property. It actually has a real light in it with conduit going down to the base to feed it! This property used to be owned by Thomas W. Martin, founder of Martin Oil Company. It was gifted to Carbondale's Parks Department.
Alto Pass is a small town in southern Illinois along SR (State Road) 127. Normally I'd probably drive right past a place like this, except for the fact that Alto Pass has Cliff View Park. While here, I also discovered the Quetil Trail. Both can be accessed right off the main drag through town, Main St. or Skyline Drive, as it is known outside the town to the southeast (on the way to Cobden).
