Barkhausen-Cache River Wetlands Center

As mentioned in last week's post, Section Eight Woods, the Barkhausen-Cache River Wetlands Center is located about a mile north of the special woods. This place serves multiple purposes. It is an education center; especially regarding the history of this area and the importance of why all the changes to the Cache River System were made. It is a trailhead for the Tunnel Hill State Trail, which travels 48 miles from this location to the other terminus of the trail at Harrisburg, Illinois. It has a recreated wetlands with a trail for viewing and taking in the scenery. One can also canoe a water trail, hike regular trails, go fishing, view wildlife, or even go hunting!
