Droop Mountain Battlefield is known for the last major American Civil War conflict in West Virginia. The park was empty while I was there, not different from most historical locations I visit routinely. The weather was nearly perfect and the solitude unbroken except by a few birds and squirrels. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here, especially in the tower.
